I started my composting project last June, but I’m not sure how well it’s worked out. I’ve been dutifully putting in egg shells, paper, veggie scraps and lawn clippings and spinning the bin a couple of times a week. Last week I eased up on adding to the bin because I want to use my compost when I start planting this Spring. It still looks chunky to me, so I don’t know if it’ll be “done” in time. What do you think? Maybe I need to break things up a bit with a spade.

In other news, I planted a package of Bibb lettuce on March 12 — it’s sprouted in clusters but I think I’ll wait until they get a little bigger to thin them out. I haven’t grown Bibb lettuce before, but have high hopes that it will work out well in my container garden. I’m considering radishes though it’s a little early, and then onions and snow peas.

I have started basil inside but the seeds haven’t sprouted yet. I probably don’t have them in the right potting medium.
