Wearing blinders
I have returned from the Caribbean with renewed purpose and the start of a decent tan. I know the tan won’t last, but I hope the sense of purpose will. After some reflection, I decided to publicly post my one New Year’s resolution: to reduce my Diet Coke consumption to one 20 oz. bottle a day.
My body is currently propelled by a mixture of aspartame, carbonated water and caramel coloring. There are those who claim this is not a healthy way to live. I don’t know about that, but I do know that it’s an expensive habit…six to seven bottles of Diet Coke a day sets me back about 6 to 9 dollars a day. yikes.
I know I can stop because on my recent trip to the Caribbean (ya mon!) I was down to two cans of the stuff a day maximum. I hardly missed it with all the other hustle and bustle going on around me. This leads me to believe that my consumption of Diet Coke is not an addiction but a really bad habit. I know I started drinking more when I joined WW as a way to not eat things (pretzels, Swedish fish, salty goodness) that were really, really bad for me. It helped, it really did. However, it’s time to throw away the crutch.
Plus, I also figure the money saved will pay for my next trip to the Caribbean (ya mon!) or Italy or someplace nice…we’re talking the neighborhood of $2100 to $3500 possible savings.
I’m down to one soda in the morning and another at night. The real test will be the workplace. Wish me luck…
