This is a lovely photo that was taken outdoors at Frontera Grill. Rick Bayless and crew know how to make an outstanding margarita -- they pay attention to both presentation and quality. I particularly like the reflection of the trees on the surface of the drink.

Delicacies await on top of faux ice cubes.

It was incredibly difficult to shoot in Schwa without a flash. I don't use flash for my restaurant photos because I don't want to disturb the other diners and I find it washes out delicate morsels served on white flatware. A friend had a cellphone with powerful back-lighting and that that served as my main light source throughout the meal. All that was required was a little color-correction in Photoshop to make this meal look as good as it tasted!

MenuPages continues the love by using this photo I took at Molly's Cupcakes on a round-up of the Chicago Tribune's food section.

Nice natural light, but the cupcake feels over-exposed & the background is too bright. Wish I'd twisted the cupcake around a bit to get more of the heart sprinkles in the shot. There's always something I'd change about a photo!

Slashfood used the photo in an article about petit fours.

Initially, Slashfood skipped the licensing for this photo and didn't credit the photography. It was an oversight on their part. However, if a big site like Slashfood can forget to credit creative commons licensed photography, anyone can. Be diligent about tracking where and how your photos are used.

Menu Pages used this Frontera Grill photo to set up Rick Bayless' introduction into the Chicago Culinary Museum Chefs Hall of Fame.

The perfect marriage of content and photo! This was taken a few years ago, so it was a joy for me to see someone discover and use it. I remember that we were seated outside for lunch so the light was wonderful. These days I always ask to be seated where I'm likely to get the best light in a restaurant. I used to be shy about it, but how many grainy, dimly lit photos can a girl stand?

Hotels Cheap did a piece on hot restaurants in Las Vegas. They actually used two of my photos for the article, but I liked this one best.

This is one of the earlier photos I took with my Canon Rebel XTi. I used the auto settings with the out-of-the-box lens, and I think it came out alright considering the low-light conditions.

Menu Pages used this in a feature on La Madia, a high-end pizza establishment in River North.

In the comments on the photo, Menu Pages put me in contention for Chicago's best food photographer. That's a lot of pressure, but I'm willing to live up to it.

I find that pizza is a really hard thing to photograph. It's hard to get angles on it, even exposure, etc. without it looking flat and dull. Truthfully, my best pizza shots have been slices or action shots of slices being lifted from the pie. This isn't a bad picture, though.

Kathika used this photo to talk about food at all-inclusive resorts.

The Picasso is not an all-inclusive, so I thought it was a little weird to use this photo. A more honest choice would've been some of the resort food photography I took in the Dominican Republic. I understand their selection, however, because the food at the resort wasn't always pretty or well-plated.

Does Soy Affect Your Sperm Count? The Natural Health & Organic Living blog used one of my edamame photos to accompany their story.

I liked this presentation of edamame. You'll notice it's served in a bamboo sling instead of a bowl which puts the edamame in a nice slope. For me, bowls of anything -- soup, yogurt, edamame -- are harder to shoot so I applaud the restaurant for mixing it up. In fact, if restaurants could manage to avoid bowls entirely I would appreciate it!
