When did you join Twitter? Three years ago today, thank you very much. I joined because my friend Mark had signed up the previous week and he badgered me into it. Really, I think he wanted someone to talk to on the service.
Twitter was pretty sparse in those days and I didn’t use it much. I had to strong-arm my friends to get accounts and it felt like a lot of work to make it useful. On the other hand, there were also no marketers, companies, sex-spammers, life coaches, or “social media experts”. Imagine a Twitter without that traffic why don’t you? Ha!
I stuck with it. Back then, I enjoyed Twitter for the novelty and hated it for the lack of perceived utility. Now, I can justify the time I spend on it. It drives traffic to my sites, sends me news, and forges connections I wouldn’t have otherwise.
I’ll stay for a while, but another three years? I don’t know. It feels like the right time to find the next it thing.
