Thoughts on Flickr and Copyright
Wouldn't it be nice if the creative commons licensing was included in the photo information when blogging from within the Flickr site? Currently, the photo title, link and Flickr user name are published. The license info only appears if you go back to the originally uploaded photo.
Flickr allows its users to chose their CC license, but doesn't do much to help reinforce the principles behind the license. I think it would be a simple thing to include in its built-in blogging process. Additionally, it would set a good example for people wondering how to best reference photography from Flickr users.
Flickr provides guidelines for its registered users about how to behave within the site, but the Web is bigger than Flickr. The site acknowledges this by allowing 3rd party usage of photos and encouraging the spread of photo reuse. However, there is no guidance provided about how to best credit Flickr photographers. I don't understand why.
For now, I have to monitor and correct misuse of my photography. I don't think it's too much to ask for Flickr to help out.
