A company's aggregated life
I've been playing with Linked In's company profiles beta, and I'm sure much will be revealed about the composition of individual companies, the suitability of revealing a company's employee make-up in the aggregate, and how companies will game the system to improve their stats or make themselves disappear. It's all going to happen. The HR folks haven't caught up to their digitally aware employees.
I've been thinking of this information in a different way, however. As a Web site manager, I've always struggled to get accurate demographics to justify projects or approaches to developing our Intranet. At first glance, our company profile has been helpful. The profile tells me the median age and tenure of our employees who are active in social media sites. It also reveals to me, through common job titles, which departments to target with internal social media initiatives.
As I think about it, I'm sure more ideas will come to me. In the meantime, I've forwarded information about our company profile to the HR department...seems like they need some help getting ahead of this curve.
