Jancee Dunn‘s book But Enough About Me is written by a Rolling Stone writer with a serious geek complex. It provides a lot of helpful information about how to approach celebrities and get a great interview. Apparently the keys are to do your research and have great questions prepared. As many of you know, the only thing I’m capable of saying to famous people is “I really like your show” or “I’m a big fan”. This book was right up my alley.

Too bad I completely forgot every word of it when I met David Weinberger on Friday. I’ve been a fan of his ever since I read the Cluetrain Manifesto.  I saw him checking his e-mail after his presentation, so I took a deep breath and introduced myself.

I will give him credit. He didn’t run screaming for the hills at my fangirl approach — though I do think he was freaked out to discover he had a fangirl. Ah well. Maybe one day I’ll be able to hold an intelligent conversation with a celeb. It’s a new goal.

Thanks for the book, Joanie! Maybe it only works on rock-n-rollers?

I’m seriously considering life without television. I mean, it’s time, right? I can watch all my favorite shows on-line (including the hilarious IT Crowd and almost as funny ANTM). I’m having hardware problems — the DVD player in my laptop is less flaky than the dedicated machine under my television, and the remote control won’t work on my television.

By canceling cable television I could save enough money to buy a really, really nice cinema monitor for my laptop. Plus, I won’t have to worry about that looming HDTV business.

I think the only problem left to ponder is what to point my living room furniture at. Though some of my friends wonder how cozy it’s going to be to hang out in front of the laptop and watch movies. That might be an issue.

Watch the telly? Nah.

I don’t need to go back. It was too much bling, too much noise, too many people and yes, too much food!
