"Who died?"

"Milton Friedman died today."

"No!!! Morgan Freeman! He's dead?"

"Not Morgan Freeman, Milton Friedman. The father of modern economics, nobel prize winner....Milton Friedman?"

"Oh, I don't care about economics. Movies, on the other hand."

"He was the advisor to three presidents..."

"Nope, sorry. Don't care."

"Well, I was kinda upset."

Well, I heard! Strong U of C ties, old Milt had. Back in my economic research days, I worked with people who were close to him professionally and academically.

I was just in Hyde Park, and was surprised not to find it draped in black cloth.

I don't know -- he certainly had his heart in the right place, but I think that the direction he took modern economics has not necessarily had an overall positive impact, from a social perspective. Still, it's sad to see someone so intelligent, articulate, and well-respected pass away.

Isn't he that guy that was famous for cross-dressing on TV? Uncle Miltie?
